Weekly Spending Re-cap August 22-28 and Catchup

I just realized that I haven't blogged in 3 days.  It's been a crazy few days. On Friday night I lined up at 11pm to get tickets for Jack Layton's funeral. At 8:30 am on Saturday we got our wristbands and then advised to come back at 11:30m to get the actual tickets. The wrist band guaranteed 1 of 600 spots. I went to the funeral, it was very well done. By the time I got home my BF who came with me and I had been up for 36h straight. Then today I went to Fanexpo which was a lot of walking. My legs are killing me. I am super tired and I am actually having issues writing this blog. Any ways its because of all this that you haven't heard from me.

***next day**
Sorry I was to tired to write so I went to bed. My spending is out of whack again. I put something on my credit card. But I am not worried about it because its less then $100 and its the only thing on it. I was able to go to Fanexpo and not even spend the 10$ that I took. Its interesting how when you are trying to dig yourself out of debt your priorities change. Also I have no desire to acquire more stuff.  I paid the storage unit on Sat. for the last time. I don't expect that I will see any of the money back but knowing that I won't have to budget for it in September is a nice feeling. I have come to the realization that only giving myself 60$ for two weeks is not enough. So I am going to go back to $75 I never realized how much of a difference 15$ makes.

Any ways on to my spending recap.

Pay Day

I got paid today... and so did my funds, debt and bills.

I paid my visa off completely all $465.81 of it. Made up from the $200 I put in from my second job and the $265.81 I paid today from my left over time and such. I am now consumer debt free again. It was a bit touch and go while I was figuring it out but it all worked out in the end. After I paid the rest of my visa I had $1.50 which was snowflaked into my Christmas fund. I didn't get it to $800 as I had hoped but its close. Also I paid my phone bill. I budgeted $100 and it was $74.24, so I snowflaked the $25.76 into my LoC. In my budget notes was reminder to pay off the cost of gas I put on my visa from my gas fund. But since I paid the visa I snowflaked that money into my LoC, $23.82. I also found 10 cents in my bag and one cent on the floor at the bank so I snow flaked that into my LoC$ 0.11.

As for bills, I have paid my visa, cell, LoC, car insurance and OSAP. The only thing left out standing is the storage until and I have to call on that tomorrow.

Total snowflakes for this pay 1.50 + 25.76+ 23.82+ 0.11 = $51.19+441.94 = $493.13 (total in snowflake jar)

I have updated my side bars.

I was feeling so rich, now I feel poor again... oh well such is life.

The Day Before Pay Day Sorta

Today is the day before pay day for my regular job, however today I got paid my last pay from my part time job. In total it was $235.49. I really wanted to put all of it into my LoC but that's not really responsible of me so instead I put $200.00 into my visa card and $35.49 into my LoC. Now if you are wondering why I didn't put the full amount in, it's because will the extra money I will have left over form my pay and the $200 I will clear off my visa. How?? Well you see when I got my statement for this month my balance was $299.49. In reality when I called in and asked  it was $465.81 but that extra $166.32 that makes up the difference I spent this month and will be on next month's statement. So while I want next month's statement to come in at Zero balance, I will not be charged interest on that only on the $299.49. And like I said between the $200 and the extra pay I will put into my visa tomorrow I will clear that $299.49 off. Have I lost you yet? Now what did I put the $35.49 in to the LoC, this one is easy, I pay interest in this daily!! Gross!! and every time I add a little to pay down the amount it recalculates the interest. This is why it actually makes more sense to put in many small payments than to do one large one at the end of the month.  This explanation might have been a bit more complicated then it needed to be but such is life.

As I will not be spending any money today I have snowflaked what was left in my chequing account which was a grand total of $6.98  into my LoC.

$434.69 +6.98= $441.94

Letting Things Fall in to Place

For the last little while I have been musing over what to do with my GST cheque. Should I put it into my Christmas fund to get it finished off or into my visa account or into my LoC. I have decided to put it into my drum roll…. My Christmas fund. Little Lamb has consistently told me that I should focus on one thing at a time, instead of splitting my money a little bit at a time over lots of little things. And I think she is right. Also I called TD to see how I was coming with my Loc this month and I was pleasantly surprised. Last my over time will be on this week’s pay, so I have decided to take the over time minus the rest I need to finish my Christmas fund and put that into my visa card. It should bring it down at least by $150.00. I hate that I have to use my over time money for consumer debt but you do what you must. The next thing is that starting next month I have to decide if I will focus on my vet bills fund or my car fund. But that’s a discussion for another day.

On a side not as of today I have been working for the Bank exactly 1 year. Gosh how time flies.

Weekly Money Check-Up

My Weekly Money Check-Up, courtesy of My Pretty Pennies.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on $149.00 for French lessons and despite it not being really budgeted for  I have no buyers remorse what so ever, in fact I am happy to start learning again.

2. Today I am thankful for having my health. It day Canada lost a great man and it was due to poor health, something he had little control over sadly.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was spend time curled u on the couch watching a documentary with my BF on John Adams.
4. I will consider this week a success if I get my Duke of Ed stuff done, I have been procrastinating because I have a lot of time on my hands to let me procrastinate.
5. The best prank ever pulled on me was no idea, don't think I have ever had one pulled on me.

$3.19 shoppers for hamburger buns

All the eating out is because I was in PTBO for a few days to see my BF and I fell a little off the wagon.

Well this was an expensive week. But I knew it would be a little bit just not this much. The gas I put in visa will be paid off from next pay's gas money. And I have already paid for the paint from my car fund. As it stand's my visa will everything I put on it this week and for the cost of bailing my mom out with the storage unit and the Goupon I was stupid enough the let her put on my visa, my balance is drum role: $465.81. Which is not as bad as I thought it was, but not at the Zero I would rather see at the end of my statement.

Catching up

This past Wednesday I checked my account first thing in the morning and realized that I had not been paid.   My stomach fell. It was not until later in the afternoon that I got a forwarded email saying that pay would be a day late. I had expected that was what happened but not my reaction to finding out.  My stomach dropped and I realized I had become to reliant on the little injection of cash in my account. For the most part it has been dumped into my LoC and last month when I shifted a payment from LoC into my car car fund.  My second job still made it possible for me to reduce my LoC by another grand. The job has now come to an end and this was my last payment. I can't say I am sorry to be done with it. The job I was doing required a me going to the first level of 'government santioned' harassment.  I have discovered that 'vountarty' does not always mean 'by one's own decision'. However I will miss the pay.

I wasn't sure what to do with the last $222.98 that I got. I had 3 options 1) put all of it in to my LoC 2) but 170.98 into my LoC, $50 into my Visa 3) but 100 into LoC, 50 into gas and 50 into my visa. I asked my BF what he would do he said he would pick option 3. I didn't tell him it was my money only that if you had $200 what would you do with it. He guessed that it was me however. I neither confirm or denied and he never pressed further. I am thankful that he didn't, he was never happy with the idea of me having a second job and now that it was over the idea of blowing everything up only to have an argument seamed pointless.  In the end I decided to put $140 into my LoC, $55 into my visa card and the rest for gas and other things. I have over spend this week and I still have 6 days until pay day.

I booked and paid for a French beginners course today. Its though the TDSB and will take place over 11 weeks every Monday.  It cost $150 which was put on visa and not budged for. I feel like I have lost control over using my card. I know this sounds stupid but its like once once thing that I can't pay off in full has been put on it, its like what's the point I am already going to accumulate interest. I was doing so well.

How here is the other question that I have been playing with.  I got a HST cheque in the mail for $66.25. And at first I thought I would put it into my LoC which is what I try to make a habit of doing when I get 'free' money. But than I could also put it on my visa to help bring it down a bit. Or I could put it into my Christmas fund which would being it to $20 short of being done by the end of the month.

What do you think option 1) put $66.25 to LoC 2) put towards visa card 3) put towards Christmas fund.

And since I am going to be there for 3 days, I am holding out to fill out there.

Snowflaking for the 'Good of it"

On Wednesday I got paid by my second job. Not a lot because frankly the week before I didn’t work a lot. But it was just under $90 by a few cents. For a while I flirted with what to do with it. Originally when I put the goal of getting a second job this year on my list it was to use the money to pay down my LoC. And I have for the most part, if I got paid $180, $150 would to my LoC and the other $40 would go to other stuff, maybe $20 for gas and $20 into my What if fund.  So I was pondering what to do with my less then $90 dollars. And I had this desire to allocate it to something other then my LoC, a very scary feeling. I ended up ‘talking’ myself into just dumping the whole amount into my LoC instead of splitting the amount up.
Yesterday I got paid from my full time job and before I started moving around numbers I did a bit of calculations. As I was leaving the office on my way to my car I started to feel less ‘strapped.’ It's was a completely psychological feeling but a dangerous one. I felt like I had ‘money to spend’. Today as I am writing thing I can tell you I am back to feeling ‘strapped’ finically. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t go out and blow everything I made. I did spend it, but on things like my vet bills fund, retirement fund, car fund and the list goes on. However after I dished the allocated money out (I get shift premiums which I never budget for because it’s a varying amount) I have $58.48 left. $10 I put back into my Emergency Fund because I took $10 out of it earlier in the week, so that left me with $48.48.

The question becomes though what do I do with the extra money.
This is the most dangers kind of money I think. It’s these little amounts that slip away from you. So when you get your T4 statement around tax time and it says you made XX over your normal pay which means to actually made $40,000 instead of $35,000 and you can’t remember what you did with that $5,000. It just simply slipped away; it’s the $48.48 dollar amounts that add up to that $5,000 you can’t remember what you did with.
This was my delma last night what to do with that money. In the end I decided to put it in to my LoC. But I did realize something. I feel like I never make any progress on my funds, I think I piecemeal my pay to much. I am looking forward to when my Xmas fund is done so I can reallocate it. Maybe it makes sense to dedicate one month and put all the money in to one fund and all the money into another fund when the first fund’s dollar cap has been hit. What to you think???

Weekly Money Check-Up

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was a double payment of car insurance.

2. Today I am thankful for having hood health and not being addicted to something like cigarettes.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was started the process of emptying out the storage unit. It will be a lot of work but its good to at least start on the job.

4. I will consider this week a success if I get another car load of the storage unit moved out of the unit.

5. This time last year I was still writing my last couple of papers for my final course for my under-grad degree. I was a very poor student who had a very deluded idea about how much student debt I had.

Taco Bell $5.65 **

**I avoided doing this post because of the Taco Bell entry. A friend came over and I did NOT WANT TO EAT OUT!! But he pushed and I caved, I am still mad at this! I picked Taco Bell because I knew it was the cheapest place for a decent amount of food. But it was not a thrill to eat and I still cooked dinner once I got home because I needed to have stuff to eat for lunch today. I fell like it was the biggest waste of money. He does not understand my drive to get out of debt nor my reluctance to spend any money. He makes less then me but gosh does he live a larger life.

On our way to TB we have a conversation about B-day gifts. First I don't celebrate my birthday or would rather it not get celebrated. I am also not fond of gifts unless they are practical in some way shape or form, or something I really really want. I asked him not to get me anything, he said no to this. So I asked him to donate money to charity of my choice, he said no to this. So I asked him to get me a gift card, he was uncommitted. Then I told him flat out that I did not want any objects. I am trying to reduce the crap in my life and frankly I suck, SUCK at dusting!! He said no! ARGGG! Its funny really he has had a crush on me for a long time and I have in the past told him flat out that I would never date him. I have not told him every reason I would never date him, just that I don't see him that way, which is true. But let me tell you, one of my biggest pet peeves is people who don't listen when given specific instructions. Last year he wanted to get me a china doll, I told him I would return it. Thank God he had some sense to head my advice. I know that some people would say I am being ungrateful but there is a practical aspect to what I said. I have CATS that knock everything off, no place is safe! I was not willing to spend my days worrying about if this thing got nocked over and like I said I HATE dusting!

It bothers me tremendously when I tell people that there is nothing I need and thus want. Then when they give me something, can't understand why I don't use it and get offended that they spend all this money on something that is collecting dust. People always ask for lists and I just can't produce any. I just don't need anything and until I do I would rather people saved there money then spend it on objects.

** Sorry that was a bit more of a rant than it was meant to be...

Weekly Money Check-Up

Here's My Weekly Money Check-Up, courtesy of My Pretty Pennies.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on a new set of tires for my car from Wal-mart

2. Today I am thankful for learning about personal finance earlier in life. I wish I had learned/ implemented more of what I know before I had finished school but such is life.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was I went salsa dancing.

4. I will consider this week a success if I  can get though this week without spending the last 10$ in my account.

5. I dream about... Since this could be taken two different ways, I decided to answer both ways: At night, strange, wild adventures that include ppl in my life but has nothing to do with my life. And I dream about being debt free and able to buy my own place... no matter what kind it is (Condo, house, townhouse).

Also for anyone interested in knowing about my monthly LoC update, I still have to contact with TD to find out what the numbers are after my last payment went though. Also I have no idea what my goals are for this month, so that post is on hold for a few days so I can come up with a few things.
